Etymologie
Cholos (= defekt); mesos (= mittel), Anspielung nicht erklärt, nach Jordan & Evermann (1898), äußerlich ähnlich wie Sphoeroides, aber "unterscheidet sich auffallend im Aufbau des Schädels, die Stirnknochen sind verschmälert und von der Orbita ausgeschlossen". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
