Etymologie
Colos (= verkürzt oder abgeschnitten), bezieht sich auf einen kurzen Körper und einen kurzen Schwanz; Conger, weil vermutet wurde, dass die Gattung eng mit Conger (Congridae) verwandt sei. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
