Etymologie
Von acre (= spitz); notus (= schwarz), bezieht sich auf das, was Poey als einen "erhobenen oder buckeligen" Rücken empfand [und nicht auf die schwarz gefärbte Schnauzenspitze]. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westatlantik: North Carolina, USA bis Südbrasilien und Uruguay, einschließlich des Golfs von Mexiko und der Karibik.
