Kombiniert aus callos (= schön), vermutlich mit Bezug auf große weiße Flecken auf Calloplesiops niveus (= Calloplesiops altivelis), einem „sehr schönen Fisch“, und Plesiops, der Typusgattung der Familie. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
