Etymologie
Retro (= lat. für "hinten"); spina (= lat. für "Dorn" oder "Stachel"), wahrscheinlich auf die Rückenflosse bezogen, die sich hinter einem beweglichen, nach vorne gerichteten Stachel befindet. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Brasilien und Paraguay: Einzugsgebiet des Rio Paraguay.

Status: Stand 20.3.2024:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
