Typusfundort: Nord-Pulau Bintan, aus einem kleinen Bach, Riau-Archipel, Sumatra, Indonesien.
Etymologie
Spilos (= Fleck); genys (= Wange), bezieht sich auf das charakteristische Fleckenmuster auf dem Kiemendeckel der Erwachsenen. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Malaysia, Bintan.

Status: Stand 31.07.2018: CR Critically Endangered (vom Aussterben bedroht)
