Etymologie
Von batrachus (= Frosch), bezieht sich auf die frosch- oder krötenartige Form aller Arten; glanis (= Wels, (Silurus glanis)), heute ein allgemeiner Begriff für Wels. [Gill (1861) und andere haben die Schreibweise zu Batrachoglanis „korrigiert“, aber die ursprüngliche Schreibweise muss bestehen bleiben]. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
