Etymologie
Patronym nicht identifiziert, aber wahrscheinlich zu Ehren von Auguste Sallé (1820-1896), französischer Reisender und Entomologe, der mexikanische Fische an das Britische Museum lieferte. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Mexiko: weit verbreitet im südlichen und zentralen Hochland: Einzugsgebiet des Río Lerma, ausgewählte Zuflüsse des Río Balsas, das Einzugsgebiet des Rio Grande de Morelia und das Quellgebiet des Río Panuco.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 7.1.2022:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Die Hauptbedrohung für diese Art ist die Verschlechterung des Lebensraums infolge veränderter Wasserabflussregime. Sie ist wahrscheinlich lotisch angepasst und reagiert empfindlich auf veränderte Abflussverhältnisse. Die Verringerung des Wasserdurchflusses des Rio Lerma und die anschließende Verschlechterung der Wasserqualität haben wahrscheinlich zur Ausrottung der Art im Chapala-See geführt. Darüber hinaus bedroht die übermäßige Entnahme von Grundwasser auf regionaler Ebene die Integrität des Quellwassers und erhöht die Wahrscheinlichkeit der Entwässerung geeigneter Lebensräume.
