Etymologie
Das Art-Epitheton "brucutu" ist ein portugiesisches Wort. Es bedeutet soviel wie starke oder grobe Person. Es wird hier verwendet in Bezug auf den stumpf und klobig wirkenden vorderen Teils des Schädels und Unterkiefers der Spezies.
Verbreitung
Astyanax brucutu ist bisher nur aus dem ca. 670 m langen Rio Pratinha bekannt und vom Rio Santo Antônio, am Zusammenfluss mit Rio Pratinha.
