Typusfundort: Mexiko (höchstwahrscheinlich der Abhang des südlichen Golfs von Mexiko).
Etymologie
Von angustus (= schmal); frons (= Front, Gesicht oder Stirn), Anspielung nicht offensichtlich, möglicherweise auf kleinere Schnauze im Vergleich zu Astyanax mexicanus. (Übersetzt aus The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Mexiko und Guatemala, Campeche und Tabasco bis Nord-Petén. Der Sammler, Auguste Sallé, arbeitete in Mexiko und Mittelamerika, einschließlich der südlichen Golfregion, bevor er ins parzifische Oaxaca zog.
