Von tri (= drei); radiatus (= gestrahlt), Anspielung nicht erklärt, vielleicht auf drei weiche Afterflossenstrahlen bezogen. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Im Orinoco und im einzug des Valencia-Sees, jedoch in den höheren Lagen des Guiana Schildes durch Ancistrus saudades ersetzt.
