Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren des britischen Botanikers John Hinchley Hart (1847-1911), Superintendent der Royal Botanic Gardens in Trinidad, der dem British Museum mehrere Exemplare „überreichte“. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Flussentwässerungen an der Karibikküste: Niederländische Antillen, Trinidad und Tobago sowie Venezuela. In Mexiko eingeführt.
