Etymologie
Benannt nach dem Amatitlán-See in Guatemala, der Typuslokalität von Amatitlania nigrofasciata („Amatitlán“ bedeutet in Nahuatl „ein Ort, der reich an Amaten ist“, wobei Amate eine Art rustikales Papier ist, das aus der Rinde von Ficus petiolaris oder F. indica hergestellt wird).
