Etymologie
Spectabilis (= bemerkenswert oder auffällig), ein "sehr hübsch gezeichneter Fisch". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Acantopsis spectabilis ist aus dem Irrawaddy-Flussbecken von Myanmar und Indien, dem Salween-Flussbecken von Thailand und Myanmar und der Tenasserim-Provinzregion (Dawei-Fluss und vermutlich das Ataran-Flussgebiet) von Myanmar bekannt.

Status: Stand 13.11.2017: DD Data Deficient (ungenügende Datengrundlage)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Die Art ist potentiell von zukünftigen Staudämmen an Hauptflüssen Ayeyarwaddy und Salween betroffen.
