Benannt nach Giovanni Battista Gazola (1757-1834), dem Eigentümer der Lagerstätte Monte Bolca, wo auch dieses Fossil gefunden wurde.

Bisher nur von der Lagerstätte Monte Bolca, Italien, bekannt.
