Typusfundort: Rio Marimbondo, Zufluss zum Rio Preto, Rio Paraiba Becken, 1 Kilometer westlich von Visconde de Mauá, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilien.
Etymologie
Aureus (= golden); guttatus (= gefleckt), bezieht sich auf goldene Flecken (im Wechsel mit dunklen Flecken) auf der hinteren Körperhälfte und eine Reihe von goldenen Flecken auf der Mittellinie des Rückens, hinter der Rückenflossenbasis. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
