Typusfundort: Original: Brasilien, Amazonas, nähe Tefé. Des Neotypus: Peru: Loreto: río Nanay (Amazon Zufluss), linkes Ufer näher der Ortschaft Pampa Chica, ca. 4,5 km westlich des Zentrums von Iquitos, 3°45’09"S, 73°17’0”W (Karte).
Etymologie
Patronat nicht identifiziert aber wahrscheinlich zu Ehren von Johann Natterer (1787-1843), der Südamerika erforschte und 18 Jahre lang Exemplare sammelte. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Trachydoras nattereri sind aus dem Essequibo-Becken und großen Nebenflüssen im gesamten Amazonasbecken bekannt (z. B. Madeira, Negro, Ucayali). Im río Nanay, Peru, bildet T. nattereri nachts in fließenden Gewässern entlang großer Sandstrände, Schwärme mit Trachydoras gepharti und Trachydoras sp. "Mancha-caudal". Erwachsene Tiere wurden auch in stehenden Gewässern gesammelt, die in der Trockenzeit mit Überschwemmungsseen verbunden sind.
