Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren von Sir Bryan Leighton (1868-1919), der dem British Museum (Natural History) den Typus „überreichte“. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Sturisomatichthys leightoni kommt in den Becken Magdalena-Cauca und Orinoco in Kolumbien vor.

Gefahren für diese Art: Als benthische Art kann sie durch eine Zunahme der Sedimentation infolge großflächigen Holzeinschlags beeinträchtigt werden. In Alto Cauca und Magdalena gibt es Dämme, die zu einer Zunahme der Sedimentation führen.
