Typusfundort: Original: Sagami Bay via Tokyo market; Kagoshima, Japan. Neotpyus: Senoumi Bank, Suruga Bay, Honshu, Japan, ca. 34°43'N, 138°33'E (Karte), 270–300 m Tiefe.
Etymologie
Benannt nach der Typuslokalität.
Verbreitung
Squalus japonicus ist eine regionale endemische Art, die im nordwestlichen Pazifik von Südjapan, China bis Taiwan vorkommt. Sie kommt am oberen Kontinentabalhang tropischer und subtropischer Gebiete zwischen 195 und 520 m Tiefe vor, obwohl sie auch nur aus 52 m Tiefe berichtet wurde. Diese Art kommt auch in koreanischen Gewässern vor.
