Typusfundort: Angola, 10°49'S, 13°43'E (Karte); 35–36 m Tiefe.
Etymologie
Vom Lateinischen inexpectatus (= unerwartet, überraschend); in Anlehnung an Peter Wirtzs überraschenden Fund von zwei Exemplaren einer unbeschriebenen Art in der Sammlung der Zoologischen Staatssammlung, beim Materialvergleich zur Beschreibung von Serranus pulcher.
Verbreitung
Felsige Böden in 25-36 m Tiefe. Bisher nur aus dem Senegal bekannt, aus Gabun und Angola (und möglicherweise vor Sierra Leone).
