Verbreitung
Indo-Westpazifik: Rotes Meer, Kenia bis Südafrika; Oman, Westküste Indiens, Korea, Japan, einschließlich der Ogasawara-Inseln, China, Taiwan, Hongkong, Indonesien, Papua-Neuguinea, Arafura-Meer und Nordaustralien. Manchmal falsch identifiziert als Epinephelus magniscuttis oder Epinephelus heniochus.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 26.09.2019:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Gefahren für diese Art: Epinephelus epistictus ist möglicherweise durch Überfischung in Ostasien bedroht, wo der Fischereidruck in einem weiten Bereich von Tiefen groß ist.
