Etymologie
Caninus (= Hund), benannt nach Cachorro (= “Kleiner Hund”), seinem lokalen Namen auf den Kanarischen Inslen (der Typsulokalität). (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Mittelmeer; Ostatlantik: Portugal südlich bis Angola, einschließlich Madeira und Kanarische Inseln.
