Etymologie
Tiger, Anspielung nicht erklärt, bezieht sich vielleicht auf das tigerähnliche Streifenmuster auf Nacken und Oberkörper. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westatlantik: Südflorida, Golf von Mexiko, Bahamas, Kuba, Haiti, Jamaika, Venezuela und wahrscheinlich in der gesamten Karibik bis Brasilien.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 17.09.2018:LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Überfischung und Habitatzerstörung sind die potentiell größten Gefahren für diese Art.
