Etymologie
Mio- (= weniger oder klein); stoma (= Maul), die Art schien verwandt zu sein mit Scorpaena longicornis und Scorpaena zanzibarensis (beide jetzt Synonyme von Parascorpaena mossambica), aber mit einem „wesentlich schmaleren Maul“. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Scorpaena miostoma ist nur im nordwestlichen Pazifik verbreitet, einschließlich China, Korea, Japan und Taiwan. Die Art bevorzugt am ehesten gemäßigte Gewässer, in niedrigeren Breiten neigt sie zu tieferen Gewässern. Sie kommt in Japan häufig in Gezeitenbecken vor, wurde jedoch hauptsächlich in tiefen Gewässern (> 400 m) vor Taiwan gesammelt.
