Holotypus: USNM 106509.
Typusfundort: Laguna Grande in der Nähe von Volcán, Río Chiriquí Viejo-Becken, Panama.
Etymologie
Der Artname bezieht sich auf die Vulkanseen, in denen dieser Fisch lebt, ebenfalls sich auch auf die allgemeine Umgebung, in denen die Seen vorkommen, beziehend.
