Etymologie

Grand (= groß); squama (= geschuppt), bezieht sich auf die größeren Schuppen (ihr Durchmesser ist fast halb so groß wie der Durchmesser der Augen) im Vergleich zu Pseudorhombus cinnamoneus (Paralichthyidae), seinem damals vermuteten Verwandten. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Verbreitung

Rotes Meer; Indo-Westpazifik: Ostafrika, Persischer Golf und Madagaskar, östlich bis zu den Philippinen und Papua-Neuguinea, nördlich bis Zentraljapan, südlich bis Westaustralien, Queensland (Australien) und Neukaledonien.

Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Für diese Art sind keine größeren Gefahren bekannt. Dies ist ein relativ kleiner Plattfisch (bis zu 15 cm TL), der allerdings in Gewässern vorkommt, in denen Schleppnetzfischerei betrieben wird.
