Ob die in der Literaturauflistung genannten Arbeiten sich tatsächlich mit R. quelen beschäftigen, müsste im Einzelfall überprüft werden.

Etymologie

Benannt zu Ehren von Abbé (Vater) Florentin-Louis de Quélen de la Villeglée (1762-?), Kaplan auf der Expedition, die den Typus sammelte [das Taxon ist vermutlich ein Substantiv in Apposition, ohne das Patronym andeutende „i“]. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Gefahren für diese Art: Rhamdia quelen ist durch Verschmutzung, durch Herbizide, Fungizide und Pestizide bedroht, die aus der Landwirtschaft der Reis-, Sojabohnen-, Mais- und Weizenproduktion abfließen. Außerdem könnten einige Pestizide direkt dem Wasser zugesetzt werden, um Makrophyten und räuberische Insekten zu bekämpfen. Auch wird diese Art durch invasive Fischarten und potenzielle Habitatveränderungen und -degradationen durch die Aquakulturindustrie bedroht, die auf diese Art abzielt.
