Etymologie

Von pseudo- (= falsch); batos (= griechisch für einen Plattfisch), wird normalerweise für Rochen verwendet, wird jedoch hier als abgekürzter Ersatz für Rhinobatos verwendet und bezieht sich auf die frühere Einbeziehung ihrer Arten in diese Gattung, d. h. falsche Rhinobatos.
