Typusfundort: Australia, Queensland, Great Barrier Reef, northern corner of Escape Reef, approximately 15°50’ S, 145°50’ E (Karte), 3–6 m Teife.
Etymologie
Die Art wurde magniseptus genannt (lateinisch: große Barriere) mit Bezug auf seine Verbreitung im Great Barrier Reef.
Verbreitung
Pomacentrus magniseptus ist aus dem Great Barrier Reef von Queensland, Australien, bekannt. Im Süden bis zur Capricorn Goup (23°30'S) und Norden bis mindestens Raine Island (11°36'S). Der typische Lebensraum besteht aus Durchgängen und äußeren Riffhängen in etwa 1,5-12 m Tiefe, meist angrenzend an senkrechte Wände oder im Schatten überhängender Klippen und Vorsprünge. Es ist eine häufige Art in Korallenriffen auf der ganzen Länge des Great Barrier Reef.
