Etymologie

Vom Griechischen poikilos (= bunt oder gesprenkelt), bezogen auf die Farbmuster von Poecilia vivipara und anderen Cyprinodontiformen-Fischen (z.B. Fundulus heteroclitus), die Bloch & Schneider in die Gattung stellten. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
