Typusfundort: vor Tulear (Madagaskcar), 23°19'58.8"S, 43°31'1.2"E (Karte), 320 m Tiefe.
Etymologie
Benannt nach Kaja Magdalena Weigmann, der Tochter des Erstautors, die ihren ersten Kontakt mit der Knopelfisch-Taxonomie hatte, als sie mit großem Interesse die Untersuchung von Pliotrema-Exemplaren beobachtete, die zur Beschreibung dieser Art führten. Der Name "Kaja" hat auch die friesische Bedeutung "Krieger" und bezieht sich auf den sägeähnlichen Schnauzenfortsatz.
Verbreitung
Vor Madagaskar und dem Mascarene Ridge in Tiefen von 214 bis 320 m. Der Tiefenbereich von 425–500 m, angegeben für den Holotypus von Pliotrema kajae von Séret und Compagno et al. ist falsch. Pliotrema kajae ist anscheinend die einzige Art der Gattung, die in diesem Gebiet vorkommt.
