Etymologie
Von photos (= Licht), wahrscheinlich bezogen auf ein suborbitales phosphoreszierendes Organ und zwei Reihen leuchtender Punkte entlang des unteren Teils der Seiten, mit zahlreichen rudimentär ähnlichen Organen, die über die Haut des Körpers verstreut sind; nectes (= Schwimmer).
