Etymologie

Aureus (= golden), bezogen auf die goldgelbe Körperfarbe. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Verbreitung

Afrika und Eurasien: Jordantal, unterer Nil, Tschadbecken, Benue, mittlerer und oberer Niger, Senegal. Eingeführt in der Oase Azraq (Jordanien) sowie in Warmwasserteichen der USA, Süd- und Mittelamerikas sowie Südostasiens. Mindestens ein Land meldet nach seiner Einführung nachteilige ökologische Auswirkungen.
