Etymologie

Makros (= groß); lepis (= Schuppe), offenbar in Bezug auf die relativ großen Körperschuppen dieser Art.

Verbreitung

Indo-Westpazifik: Ostküste Südindiens bei Kalpakkam, 12°33'N, 80°11'E (Karte), vor der Küste von Digha in Westbengalen, Indien 20°11'N, 88°46'E (Karte), Nordvietnam (Ha Long Bay), Thailand, Golf von Carpentaria, Australien und Papua-Neuguinea in 7-62 m.
