Etymologie

Von notos (= Rücken), vorgeschlagen als Untergattung von Scopelus (= Myctophum) mit mehr Rückenflossenstrahlen als Analflossenstrahlen [Scopelus ist ein alter Name für einige großäugige Fische, von Scopus (= schauen), historisch verwendet für Laternenfische und anderen pelagische oder Tiefseefische mit großen Augen].
