Benannt zu Ehren von Gérard Belloc, Directeur du Laboratoire de l’Office scientifique et technique des Pèches maritimes à La Rochelle [Direktor des Amtes Wissenschaftliches und technisches Labor für marine Fische in La Rochelle], Leiter der Forschungskreuzfahrt, während der die Typus-Exemplar gefangen wurden.
