Typusfundort: Arafura-Meer, südlich von Neuguinea, östlicher Indischer Ozean, 9°59'S, 139°42'E (Karte), Challenger-Station 188, Tiefe 56 Meter.
Etymologie
.
Verbreitung
Minous pictus ist vor allem im Norden und Nordwesten Australiens und im Süden von Neuguinea (basierend auf untersuchten Exemplaren) verbreitet. Aufsammlungsdaten für sieben Lose ergaben Sammeltiefen von 16-94 m (meist> 50 m Tiefe). Obwohl die Art früher als Minous coccineus aus australischen Gewässern beschrieben wurde (Gloerfelt-Tarp & Kailola 1984; Sainsbury et al. 1985), wurden bisher keine Aufzeichnungen dieser Art aus Australien bestätigt.
