Typusfundort: Río San Juan nähe Cadereita [Cadereyta], Nuevo León, Mexico.
Etymologie
Von aestivalis (= des Sommers), Anspielung nicht erklärt, möglicherweise auf spätere oder längere Laichzeit im Vergleich zu Gobio vernalis (der Frühling, = Macrhybopsis storeriana) beschrieben in derselben Zeitung. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Westliche U.S.A. (Texas und New Mexico) und nördliches Mexiko.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 29.04.2017: LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Bedrohungen wurden nicht eindeutig identifiziert, aber wahrscheinlich möglich durch den Verlust und Abbau von Lebensraum (der projizierte Klimawandel wird dazu beitragen).
