Etymologie
Quathlamba ist der einheimische Name der Drakensberge, Natal, Südafrika, wo diese Art auf einer Höhe von 1615 Metern vorkommt. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Gefahren für diese Art: Die größte Bedrohung stellen gebietsfremde, invasive Fischarten dar, insbesondere Regenbogenforellen (Oncorhynchus mykiss) und Bachforellen (Salmo trutta), die in großem Umfang in Bächen im gesamten heimischen Verbreitungsgebiet der Art, sowohl im Hochland von Lesotho als auch in KwaZulu Natal, eingeführt worden sind. Die Wasserentwicklungsprojekte im Hochland von Lesotho stellen ebenfalls eine ernsthafte Bedrohung dar, da die Transferkanäle zwischen den Einzugsgebieten zu einer weiteren Ausbreitung von nicht heimischen und gebietsfremden Arten wie Labeobarbus aeneus und Labeo capensis führen werden. Eine potenzielle Bedrohung ist die Verschlechterung des Lebensraums durch den Bau des Mohale-Stausees, der eine Zunahme der menschlichen Dichte und eine Ausweitung der landwirtschaftlichen Aktivitäten zur Folge hatte. Dies könnte zu Auswirkungen wie Sedimentation, Verschmutzung und Wasserentnahme führen. Weitere Untersuchungen sind erforderlich, um die Auswirkungen dieser potenziellen Bedrohungen auf die Mohale-Populationen zu bestätigen.
