Etymologie

Verbreitung
Verbreitet von den Inseln des westlichen Indischen Ozeans (Seychellen, Réunion, Mayotte, Europa und Madagaskar), Chagos Archipel, Malediven und der Andamanensee bis nach Indonesien, Malaysia (Tioman), Papua-Neuguinea, den Philippinen, Neukaledonien, Solomon Islands, Mikronesien und Fidschi, nördlich von Taiwan und Südjapan (Ryukyu und Yaeyama Islands), keine Aufzeichnungen aus Australien. Der Datensatz aus Fidschi (der östlichste Datensatz der Spezies) basiert auf Material von USNM, das von Springer & Team gesammelt wurde (z. B. USNM 236679, 235950). Gewöhnlich wird die Art solitär in der Nähe der Basis von Korallenriffen in einer Tiefe von 3-30 m gesehen.

Status: Stand 18.08.2018: LC Least Concern (nicht gefährdet)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Die Art ist wahrscheinlich ein Bestandteil des Aquarienfischhandels. Das Ausmaß ist jedoch nicht bekannt. Es sind keine weiteren bekannten Bedrohungen bekannt.
