Etymologie
Patronym nicht identifiziert, aber wahrscheinlich zu Ehren von George Strong Nares (1831-1915), britischer Marineoffizier und Kapitän der Challenger-Expedition (1872-1876), während derer die Typen gesammelt wurden. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Indo-West-Pazifik: Ostafrika, Madagaskar und Maskarenen östlich bis zu den Marquesas-Inseln, nördlich bis zum südlichen Japan, südlich bis zum nördlichen Australien, Neukaledonien und Fidschi.
