Niger (= schwarz), bezogen auf die Färbung.

Verbreitung

Ostatlantik und Mittelmeer: in ganz Nordafrika vom Kap Blanc, Mauretanien nach Norden und Osten bis zum Suezkanal; auch entlang der Ostatlantikküste nach Norden bis Trondheim (Norwegen) und in der Ostsee. Auch aus dem Schwarzen Meer bekannt.
