Typusfundort: Neuseeland, Kermadec Inseln, Insel Raoul, Fishing Rock Landing, 29°15'03.0"S, 177°54'12.0"W (Karte), 0–1 m Tiefe.
Etymologie
Incus ist das lateinische Wort für Amboss, in Anlehnung an den amboßähnlichen Umriss der Raoul-Insel, der größten Insel des Kermadec-Archipels und Typuslokalität der Art.
Verbreitung
Bisher nur um die Kermadec-Inseln bekannt, einschließlich von Raoul Island (Typuslokalität) und L'Esperance Rock. Die Mehrzahl der verfügbaren Exemplare wurde aus steinigen Becken und aus seichteren Subtidalbereichen (bis zu 9 Metern) über Gestein und Korallenschutt gefangen. Ein einzelnes Exemplar wurde jedoch in 28 Metern Tiefe beobachtet (und fotografiert).
