Etymologie
.
Verbreitung
Indo-West Pazifik: Rotes Meer südlich bis mindestens Durban, Südafrika und östlich nach Palau und Fiji, nördlich bis zu den Ryukyu-Inseln, südlich bis zum Arafura-Meer und Australien. In das Mittelmeer (Küste Israels) über den Suez-Kanal eingewandert.
IUCN Status
Status: Stand 26.01.2019:NT Near Threatened (potenziell gefährdet)
Grund für die Gefährdungseinstufung: Überfischung ist eine bedeutende Bedrohung für die Populationen im Persischen Golf (Grandcourt et al. 2009) und China, wird jedoch derzeit auf globaler Ebene nicht als große Bedrohung angesehen. Der Abbau von Mündungsgebieten (Lebensraum für Jungfische) und Korallenriffen (Lebensraum für Erwachsene) kann ebenfalls Auswirkungen auf diese Art haben (Burke et al. 2002).
