Etymologie

Benannt nach Achille Valenciennes.

Verbreitung

Sri Lanka, Thailand (Golf von Thailand und Andamanensee), Vietnam, Malaysia (Sabah), Singapur und Indonesien (Java, Sumatra und Lombok). Doboatherina valenciennei wurde aus Sulawesi (= Celebes), Flores und Biaru I. von Weber und de Beaufort (1922, als Atherina valenciennesi), aus Sulawesi von Ivantsoff und Kottelat (1988, als Hypoatherina valenciennei), aus Neuguinea von Munro (1967) als Allanetta valenciennei) und von den Salomonen von Seale (1935, als Atherina valenciennesi) verzeichnet. Bei den Untersuchung von Sasaki und Kimura (2019) anhand zahlreicher Exemplare der früheren Gattungen „Hypoatherina“ und „Atherinomorus“, die an verschiedenen Orten im gesamten Indopazifik gesammelt wurden, konnten sie die Art in Ostindonesien, Neuguinea oder den Salomonen jedoch nicht finden. Daher konnte die Verbreitung dieser Art in diesen Gebieten nicht bestätigt werden.
