Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren des Ichthyologen William F. Smith-Vaniz (geb. 1941), der den Autoren morphologische Daten von Exemplaren der Rotflossen-Decapterus-Gruppe und viele „wertvolle“ Kommentare zu ihrem ersten Entwurf gab. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)

Indo-Westpazifik: Pakistan (?); Myanmar und Indonesien bis zum Südchinesischen Meer, nördlich bis Japan; Philippinen.
