Etymologie
Von ater (= schwarz), bezogen auf einheitliche Schwarzfärbung. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Circumglobal in allen Ozeanen. Ostatlantik: Gibraltar zu den Azoren und Madeira; Südafrika. Östlicher Indischer Ozean: Australien. Südwestpazifik: Neuseeland. Ostpazifik: Oregon, USA nach Panama und Chile.
