Typen

Holotypus: FHSM VP-17575 .
Typusfundort und -schicht: Ein Schieferbett in der unteren Hälfte des Blue Hill Shale. Mitglied des Carlile Shale in der Nähe der Stadt Tipton in Mitchell County, Kansas.

Etymologie

Der Name der Art, houghtonorum, ist Keith und Deborah Houghton gewidmet, den Eigentümern des Landes, in dem das Cretodus-Exemplar gefunden wurde und die es freundlicherweise für die Zwecke der Studie an das FHSM gespendet haben.
