Etymologie
Benannt zu Ehren des Ichthyologen, Fischereibiologen und des Kollegen von Jordan an der Stanford University, Charles Henry Gilbert (1859-1928), der viele gadiforme Arten beschrieb, oft zusammen mit Carl L. Hubbs. (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
Verbreitung
Japan und Emperor Seeberge. In Japan vom oberen Kontinentalhang entlang der Pazifikküste von Hokkaido bis Shikoku und dem Kyushu-Palau Rücken bekannt. Tiefenbereich 400–930 m. Im Pazifik vor Nord-Honshu (Tohoku) mäßig verbreitet, im Westen der Boso-Halbinsel (139,89°E) jedoch selten.
