Australis (= südlich), bezogen auf seine Verbreitung vor Südaustralien, "ein Beispiel für eine Gattung [damals Lepidoleprus], die zuvor auf der südlichen Hemisphäre nicht entdeckt worden war". (Übersetzt aus: The ETYFish Project)
